Boxing provides an amazing workout for both the body and the mind. As owners of a boxing gym, we know how beneficial a boxing program is, and we want everyone in the Richmond, Virginia, area to know it too. Many people are unfamiliar with how boxing classes work, so our goal is to inform, motivate and convert conventional gym-goers to this established, effective (and fun!) form of exercise.
At our boxing gym in Richmond, you won’t find any intimidating instructors or clients. We pride ourselves on creating a friendly, welcoming environment and our focus is on health and fitness, not brawn. Boxing is often associated with fighting, but the two are not inextricably linked. Learning boxing techniques involves skill and discipline. Regular boxing training improves not only your body, but your mind as well. Boxing as a sport and boxing as a form of exercise are different.
You can burn about the same number of calories in an hour-long boxing class as you can jogging for an hour - about 350-500, depending on your level of effort. Our clients love our boxing classes because they're fun - they're dynamic, instructive and provide a satisfying workout.
People today don't feel confident for many reasons. They might be self-conscious about being overweight, or the opposite - being "too small."" Our society reveres women who are small, but men who are small may be teased or bullied.
However, your lack of self-confidence may have nothing to do with your body. Parents, partners, friends and others can crush self-confidence by making you feel that you aren't smart enough, you don't make enough money or you aren't as successful as others. Many people feel this way every time they scroll through social media. Boxing classes can help. When you see what you can achieve - results you never thought possible - your self-confidence will be renewed. Boxing lessons build courage, determination and spirit.
The world can be a dangerous place, and knowing how to defend yourself makes it safer. All too often, men in bars or at sporting events can be dragged into a brawl over seemingly nothing. If you're a woman, you'll feel safer walking to your car or riding the bus at night once you have taken boxing classes. If you're nonbinary, you'll feel safer every time you leave the house if you have some defensive moves up your sleeve.
Boxing classes teach you how to move quickly to avoid allowing your opponent to land a punch. They also teach you how to punch correctly so that you often only have to land one or two good punches before the fight is over.
A boxing trainer can help you feel less afraid when you're out in the world.
