Is your current workout boring, or are you putting off establishing a fitness routine because you fear it will be tedious? Are you looking for cardio and strength training that doesn’t involve miles of pavement-pounding, hours on a treadmill, or a same-old routine of weights machines? Would you like to get more bang for your workout buck by learning valuable life skills, boosting your mental health, and gaining new confidence?

If any of the above applies to you, you’re a great candidate for the Muay Thai Kickboxing class at Phoenix Fitness & Martial Arts.

Kickboxing is an intense, fast-paced cardio workout that uses arms, legs, torso, and abdomen. It also helps to build muscle endurance and core strength. The Muay Thai style of kickboxing we teach at Phoenix will have you using punches, kicks, knees and elbows for a full-body cardio and strength workout. While other kickboxing gyms just teach punches and kicks, at Phoenix Fitness & Martial Arts you’ll learn elbow and knee strikes as part of your training – the Muay Thai form of kickboxing is arguably the most complete and effective style. You’re constantly moving, whether punching and kicking a heavy bag, hitting focus mitts, or holding pads for a partner. As such, it’s a fantastic way to get in shape and maintain fitness – you’ll burn a ton of calories in every workout!

Moreover, kickboxing teaches practical self-defense skills that can be used in real-life situations – a total confidence booster! In addition, a kickboxing class is a great way to relieve tension and anxiety, and provides an outlet for anger and frustration. At our Muay Thai gym, you learn to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations – an incredibly valuable skill that translates to other aspects of your life, such as dealing with occasionally unruly children at home, coping with a dysfunctional workplace, or managing an unpleasant boss, annoying coworker, or relative who yells.

Finally, a small-group kickboxing class is just plain fun, providing practitioners with support and camaraderie. While other kickboxing gyms just use punching bags, at Phoenix Fitness & Martial Arts we engage in active partner training. When you’re ready, we’ll pair you with a classmate of similar size and skill so you can practice with someone holding and moving pads around, to provide you with more realistic training. And, working with a partner builds on the sense of caring community that we cultivate at Phoenix.

Best of all, our kickboxing class is completely adaptable to people of any skill level – beginners included – and women as well. Muay Thai is not just for men! One of the advantages of kickboxing for women is the opportunity to learn techniques that work to defend against a larger opponent – a benefit our female members tell us is a huge confidence-builder.

In short, kickboxing is a great way to transform your physique, build confidence, and engage your mind – it’s anything but boring!

Need more convincing? Consider these success stories:

Nick was in his 40s, busy with kids and career, a former athlete who kept in shape but without structure and goals. He was finding it hard to motivate himself to work out. In search of something that would provide a positive outlet for work and family stress, and to help avoid anger, he inquired about the Muay Thai class at our gym. He was also seeking community and accountability. Nick had never done any martial arts and was nervous but excited to learn some useful skills. He began with 1-on-1 lessons to grasp the basics and ease into a class setting. Nick has been thrilled to find something he could stick with consistently, and he’s grown healthier and happier as a result.

Jessica came to us as a young lady who wanted something that would help get her in shape while also providing practical self-defense skills. She had very little athletic or exercise experience, so she was nervous about getting started. Our encouraging coaches and kind, supportive gym members really won her over and helped get her comfortable. After several years of sticking with the kickboxing class at our Muay Thai gym, Jessica has totally transformed her physique and her confidence. She loves the high-energy workouts and the sense of accomplishment after each training session, and she now calls Muay Thai “something I couldn’t go without.”

As with all training at Phoenix Fitness & Martial Arts, your kickboxing class will provide you with personal coaching in a small-group setting. Our Muay Thai coach has more than 10 years of experience and has trained and fought in Thailand, bringing you the highest levels of quality instruction. Your coach will instruct you in specific moves and forms such as blocking, slipping, and ducking punches and kicks; bob and weave; primary punching including the jab, cross, hook, and uppercut; striking with knees and elbows; and specialty moves including the Muay Thai kick and the “teep” kick.

As you progress in kickboxing, you may want to explore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, also offered at Phoenix. Together, kickboxing and BJJ provide the key components of mixed martial arts (a combination of two or more martial arts styles) as well as a complete set of self-defense skills to protect yourself against a variety of attacks (hitting, grabbing, choking, being thrown to the ground).

If your workout is running on a treadmill, clocking jogging miles in all kinds of weather, or doing mindless reps on weight machines, you are likely to have trouble motivating yourself to get fit and stay in shape. Why not look forward to an active, mentally engaging small-group workout that also teaches you valuable self-defense skills, improves your emotional health, leaves you with a sense of accomplishment – and does it all with a hefty dose of community and belonging?
